Positive thinking is good. Positive thinking plus positive action is effective.
– Bobbi Kahler

Recently in one of my classes, one of my fellow students, Brenda, commented about how much energy I seem to have. She indicated that she was envious of my good health and my energy level. For all of you who have known me for a while, you know the irony and the milestone of this comment. It has been a long and somewhat painful road back to good health after collapsing and being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome nearly four years ago. Brenda went on to tell me that she was listening to a CD by the latest guru on positive thinking. Accordingly, she was thinking positively and visualizing the result that she wanted. I told her that was a great start and I asked her, "And, what are you doing to get those results?" She looked somewhat confused and said, "Visualizing."

Therein lies the problem. I am a great believer in positive thinking and in visualizing what we want. I am also a great believer in doing those things which contribute to the positive result. When I was in the early stages of recovery, I visualized being healthy and strong again. I visualized being able to run and play tennis again. That was important. I also had to take action. That was critical. I had to make myself get up out of bed and go for short walks (at first, all I could do was make it to end of our driveway, but slowly that distance grew greater). I also had to take the 18 or so vitamins and supplements prescribed by my doctor (which was all the worse because I have never yet been able to swallow a pill). I educated myself on the illness and the recovery. I found a great team of people to help me (a great naturopath and the most talented massage therapist). Today, I am in the very small 18% of people who experience a "full" recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome not just because I thought positively and visualized the recovery, but because I also did the hard work that the recovery required.

What is your next step which leads you to the positive result you desire?

To Your Success,

Bobbi Kahler
