Discipline is consistently doing those things which contribute to the desired result.
– Bobbi Kahler
Personally, I think that discipline gets a bad rap. This is stunning news, but I've been accused of being disciplined a few times in my life. Each time, the accusation is made with the utmost amount of disdain and scorn. However, I would argue that discipline is what makes me successful at the things I do.
Discipline is not a bad word. I don’t even think about being disciplined; I just think about the result I want and the actions I need to take in order to get that result and then I do those things. For example, I have noticed that I feel at my best when I do yoga twice a week and go to the gym twice a week. I do best at school when I set aside time and do the reading and the homework. In my neuroscience class last quarter, I was one of a handful of people who made an "A" in the class. After class one night, a bunch of us were talking and it turns out that the only people who made "A's" were also the only people who actually did the required reading. I don't think it's a big leap to think that there might be a connection here.
What are the behaviors and actions that you need to take in order to get the result that you want?
