Every action we take forges our reputation. When I went back to school, my first professor told me that I would need to find ways to challenge myself. He told me that I would sail through making A's, but I would need to find ways that would deepen my knowledge beyond what the class curriculum would do. During some of my classes, some of the other students teased me a little about always doing such excellent work; they kept asking me why I would do more than was required of me. I had my final committee meeting last week with my two advisors (both professors at the school). At that committee meeting, my advisors congratulated me on my 4.0 but they told me that they were more impressed with the fact that I took control of my own learning and my experience at the university. They also asked me if, once I'm done with my Master’s, I would consider coming back to the school to teach as a professor. I was thrilled! One of the reasons that I am pursuing my Master's is because I want to teach. I realize that I could have somewhat coasted and still made great grades. However, in not allowing myself to coast, I believe that I created the opportunity that I wanted. I believe that the actions that we consistently take forge not just our character, but our reputation. Thinking of the actions that comprise your days, which ones are helping you create the future that you want for yourself? Are there any that detract from that future?
