On Saturday, I graduated from DePaul University! While I am already looking forward to starting my graduate studies at Case Western in Positive Organizational Development and Change, the graduation ceremony provided a great opportunity to reflect back over this leg of my journey. In reflecting on the experience, a few things surfaced, but one, in particular, stood out.

I realized how important it is for us to decide how we measure and define our success. At DePaul, I am most proud of my final project. It was based on the stories that I have shared in this column for the past few years. After conducting research, I organized them for the purpose of helping someone develop their leadership character. I also did research to discover the best way to help someone learn and change in this manner. From all of that I created a 142-page learning journal entitled The Leader’s Journal: Being the Person that Others Want to Follow. My professors have encouraged me to pursue publishing it and two of my professors want to be able to reference and use it in the classes that they teach on leadership. I didn’t win any awards at school with my project. But while I was writing my book, I wasn’t thinking about awards; I was focused on creating something that could empower and help people grow and change. And, I did that.

How do you insure that you are defining what success is for you and how you measure it?

To Your Success,

Bobbi Kahler
