Health challenges can oftentimes be huge obstacles to our lives, and when conventional methods of healing fail to help us with our health challenges, we might find ourselves in extremely difficult situations. My guest today is someone who survived through this sort of a challenge and ultimately became a healer himself. Ari Gronich, Performance Therapist Educator Consultant, best-selling author, and the host of Create A New Tomorrow Podcast, joins us today to talk about how a crisis may become the catalyst to finding purpose.

Show Notes

Surviving Crisis – When Ari was a young adult, he went through several medical complexities and, at some point, was misdiagnosed, causing more trouble. We talk about the long journey it took for Ari to recover and how that influenced him to find new paths of healing.

Helping Athletes – One of the things Ari focuses on now is helping athletes achieve their goals. We dive into his approach to working with athletes and how he strategically helps them overcome their weaknesses.

Value of Community – Ari shares his perspective on why we need to have a community of trusted people around us, how modern media and other innovations have affected our sense of community, and how we can create better connections with other human beings.

Bubbles of Negativity – Another interesting point Ari brings up is that we often find ourselves in bubbles of negativity because negative stories grab more attention from the world. We talk about why we need to spread more stories about all the good things that are happening around us.

Addressing Trauma – Ari shares his thoughts on how trauma affects us, how trauma lives in our body, and why we should address where trauma lives in order to reduce the way trauma affects our lives efficiently. Doing Better – Ari points out that the vast majority of the things around us and concepts and philosophies we’re used to are man-made and that we can change these things. We dive into how to create a better environment for mankind by changing these man-made things in a way that creates better outcomes.

Bobbi's Takeaways

I hope that you found both inspiration and a ton of insight and that interview. Here are my three insights for thriving.

  1. It was a great reminder about the power of the stories that we tell ourselves.  Do we think that we can come back from an injury?  Do we think that we can make a change in our lives or do we believe that we are stuck in our predictable future?  If we don’t think that we can come back or if we think that we cannot make meaningful change, then we probably won’t put the right effort in – and now we’ve just fulfilled our own prophecy.

  2. I loved when we were talking about just connecting as humans.  Doing those small things that connect us, that show love and care and that make us human.  I’m not sure how you are feeling, but something that I’m hearing from clients is that they are hungry to connect, really connect.  IF you are feeling that way, then call a friend or a loved one, text someone that you haven’t been in touch with in awhile and surprise that person with a little note saying, “I’ve been thinking of you,” or something.  If we want to be connected, we have to DO something to connect.

  3. I was reminded of the old – and true –saying that we become who and what we surround ourselves with.  Ari was talking about surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and with news that – here’s a thought – might make you smile or feel good about the world.  There is still a lot of good out there; sometimes we have to look for it thought.  What we seek, we tend to find.  And, as far as the entourage goes, before we started recording we were talking about how not everyone fits in your entourage – and that’s okay.  It doesn’t mean that they are bad or toxic or worthy of any other negative label.  It just means it’s not a fit. They are a fit for someone else.  But really think about:  who and what do you want to be surrounded by?  What will lift you up?
