Do You Have the Courage to Live True to Yourself? (#119)

Do You Have the Courage to Live True to Yourself? (#119)

It was two months before my 32nd birthday when I had an experience that changed the course of my life. I had a boyfriend and we’d built a beautiful house and life together. Or so I thought. And then one night he came home in a rage. He said that he couldn’t stand me any longer. I remember he leaned over me where I was standing, and I could see his veins standing out on his neck. His face contorted with rage.

I could barely recognize him.

And I was confused.

We had spoken on the phone 10 minutes before he got home and at the point, he had said, “I can’t imagine my life without you.”  I felt dizzy with the turn of events. Then he stormed out of the house, slamming the front door so hard, I thought the glass in it would shatter. I clearly remember staring at the door and thinking:  Who is Bobbi?  And what does she want?  I’d been in the relationship for so long AND I’d NEVER asked myself those questions.

And that was my fault.

I’d made a critical mistake.  I forgot that I was the author of my own life.  It’s a mistake that I’ve corrected and that I will NEVER make again. You are either the author of your own life, or you are a character in someone else’s story.  If you have that nagging feeling that you aren’t fully living true to yourself, please know 3 things:

  1. You are not alone
  2. There is nothing wrong with you
  3. There is a way forward

Show Notes

Ask – Inquire about who you are and what you'd like to achieve. Also, ask yourself if you want to perceive yourself through the eyes of others, with their expectations and judgments of you. Decide - You either write your own story or are a character in someone else's. You must choose which one you prefer to be. Plus & Minus – Letting your true self emerge will bring you a sense of calm and contentment. However, not everyone in your life will be on board with that.
