The Power of Happiness Is in Your Hands (#131)

Do you ever wonder what leads some people to be happier than others? Happiness researchers have and their findings might surprise you. Is it that some people are just naturally happier than others? While everyone does have a happiness set point, what researchers have found is that our happiness set point accounts for only 50% of our happiness.

 Is it our circumstances?  No.  Researchers have found that our circumstances account for a mere 10% of our happiness.  Think about that for a minute:  our circumstances account for ONLY 10% of our happiness. So, what’s the remaining 40%?  This might be the best news of all because the remaining 40% comes down to our attitudes, behaviors and actions that we take to create our happiness – or not. In this episode, I share 5 of my favorite happiness boosting activities. And, what we know from science is that when we are happier we perform better and are more successful.

Happiness Set Point- Everyone has a set point for happiness. It indicates that regardless of whether we experience positive or negative events, we swiftly revert to our natural set point.

Percentages – According to experts' findings, 50% of our happiness is determined by our happiness set point, while our circumstances only contribute 10%. Our attitudes, behaviors, and actions influence the remaining 40% of our pleasure.
