My turning point

It was a Friday night, November 9, 2018, to be exact and I was standing on the balcony of my hotel room overlooking the lights of San Francisco. I was there for work (again) and as I looked out at the lights of the city, I thought:This is a beautiful scene before me.

How much time does your mind steal from you every day?

I’m not proud of this but when I first heard that question, I thought: “What a stupid question. Of course, I’m in control of my own mind!” There may have been an eye roll involved in there as well. But the next question stopped me in my tracks, got my attention and erased the eye roll.

That was the name of the Kenny Chesney song that must have played 19 times a day when my mom passed away in 2008. It’s a song about how quickly life goes by. And if we blink, we miss the moments and by missing the moments, we miss our lives.

Sometimes you get to a point where something has to change.

I decided to start my business because even though I loved the law firm where I worked and I was well-respected and enjoyed my co-workers, I just got to a point where I had done everything that I could do in the role, and I wanted new challenges and an opportunity to push myself.

Are you prepared to fly?

Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to be able to move my 89-year-old father in to live with us. He has had two hospital stays in the last 3 weeks from COVID and pneumonia. He’s finally kicked them both, but he’s a little weak and he needs a lot of love and care right now.

Tribute to My Dad

The single hardest decision of my life was when we switched to comfort care and hospice. I didn’t want to do that. I wanted him to get better. I didn’t want to give up on him. But there came a time when it was clear that he wasn’t going to get better, and he deserved more than the absolute agony he was in.
