Most people haven’t had a doctor tell them: “You shouldn’t be alive.”
I have.
Most people haven’t had a doctor give them a 3% chance at a full recovery.
I have.
I also had doctors tell me that I would never be a fit, strong, athlete again.
But I am – stronger than before I got sick.
On March 6, 2003, my life changed when I could no longer raise my arm to brush my own teeth. That began a 10-year journey back to full, thriving health.
In this presentation, I share the inner game work that helped me make that transformation.

The most revolutionary might be the simplest: My husband, Rick (then boyfriend) and I decided that we wouldn’t put our happiness on hold until I got well; we decided to be happy in the small moments every day.

I break the inner game work down into 3 areas:

  • Prime Your Mind– There is ALWAYS a way forward, and you must believe that otherwise, you are done before you begin. This category explores mindset, happiness strategies, and how to adjust your focus so you are pulled forward instead of held back.
  • Remove Barriers– There are 6 key common internal barriers that will hold us back unless we recognize them and remove them.
  • Take Action– Action is the antidote for despair. I now cycle mountain passes (which I couldn’t do before I got sick) and it started by taking the smallest action that my weakened body could handle – walking to the end of a 20 foot driveway. Small action, taken consistently, wins.
